ghada vanderpool Ghada has a degree in teaching and experience in the Canadian public service sector as well as recent directorship in some of New Zealand’s most prolific communcations company.
As a director and account manager at Zodal, I worked on some of NZ’s top ecommerce website, software and iPhone applications. I was also on the team that spun out a successful games company Trickysheep, which produced Indygames.com’s 3rd Best Adventure Game of 2007.
I am a huge believer of the benefits in the connections made on social networking sites such as Twitter, and Facebook. I blog regularly, openly sharing resources and information about online marketing and social media. At the beginning of 2010, I decided to bring about a change and make sure that a set amount of my time uses my expert social media skills to do good for others.
Recently I volunteered with CFNZ to produce an offline event that brought together a selection of my online friends to take part in a charity cupcake and wine tasting event. Over $400 was raised in a 2 hour event and an agreement with a local wine company has been made to insure that ongoing monies continue to be donated to CFNZ on the purchase of their wines. I also raised several hundred more dollars as a Breath4CF ambassador, running my first half marathon and in the process helping to raise awareness about CF. I managed to secure raffle donations from Crusaders Rugby and iconic children’s brand Phil&Teds.
Most of 2009 was spent developing and implementing the online community strategy for Air New Zealand’s(USA) The Matchmaking Flight campaign which flew 100 North American singles and Jason “the bachelor” Mesnick and then girlfriend Megan Malaney to Auckland for the ultimate singles party. It was a truly fulfilling challenge as ‘Aroha’ the face of Air New Zealand to grow the online community from scratch and manage its rapid growth.
I have a passion for working alongside other people that are equally passionate about what they do as a career. I believe that if you are doing what you love, and are clear about how you define success, you can achieve great things through social media.
At present, I am putting the finishing touches on a radically different online coaching and training program designed to focus in on arming individuals and organizations with the skills and confidence required to create and implement an authentic and tailored social media strategy.
With Winter rearing its cold and rainy head in New Zealand, I am running in the dark of the early morning and trying to decide where my next half marathon will be. I am also revamping my personal blog and keeping an eye on what’s going on in NHL Hockey when I can.

With Winter rearing its cold and rainy head in New Zealand, I am running in the dark of the early morning and am about to embark on training for my second half marathon in Auckland on October 31, 2010. I am again running for Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand and am working on a new concept to raise funds for the worthy cause.
