Shift Communications have launched an advertising service for Twitter backgrounds. There is a one-time $19.95 USD fee to take part in the service. For it to work, a firefox add-on has to be added to your browser so that you can drag and drop ads to your background. The service is problematic in requiring viewers of the ads to also download the browser add-on. No add-on, no way of viewing the ads. This is reminiscent of the early days of Flash, where downloading the plugin was one the biggest barriers to entry.

I’m not a huge fan of the advertising model on Twitter pages. Mainly cause I don’t visit many people’s twitter pages unless it is the first time and I am trying to decide wether I should be following them or not.

My verdict is that their are too many steps to get this feature up and running.

If you want to try ClickableNow out for yourself visit the official page.
